Day 4: The Ecclesia and the Authority of the Assembly
Reading: Matthew 16:18-19, Ephesians 1:22-23, Revelation 1:6

Devotional: The Greek word ecclesia, translated as church in most modern Bibles, was originally a political and governing term. It described an assembly of citizens authorized to make binding decisions for a territory. When God established the church, He was not creating a weekly gathering for personal enrichment. He was raising up a governing body of kings and priests authorized to establish kingdom law in the earth. This is why the enemy fights your attendance, your unity, and your praise. He sees the assembly through an eternal lens and understands what is at stake. The assembling of the saints is a declaration of kingdom authority in a territory.
