Day 2: The Discipline of Simple Appetites
Reading: Isaiah 7:10-16; Matthew 3:1-4

Devotional: Heaven's sign would be recognized by diet: "Curds and honey he shall eat, that he may know to refuse the evil and choose the good." John the Baptist embodied this rhythm—clothed in camel's hair, eating locusts and wild honey. He looked odd to his culture, standing out because he refused their pace. Your willingness to discipline your desires directly reflects what you truly desire to be in relationship with. When we simplify our appetites—whether that's consumption, entertainment, or ambition—we create space to discern God's voice. The world demands complexity and excess; God invites simplicity and sufficiency. What appetite is God asking you to discipline today? What "wild grapes" of greed need to be pruned so the choicest wine can flow?
